What Happens When Your Car Is Totaled And Your Insurance Does Not Cover Damage To It?

We got into an accident out of town and the car was totaled. The insurance policy only covers damage done to other cars. The car is still in the shop. Do we sell the parts to the shop? Take it to the junkyard? Any help would be appreciated.

Why not ask the shop? Chances are they know how to advice you since this is what they do for a living.

Since it’s not insured it’s your call. Sorry it wasn’t that helpful.

That’s too bad. I hope no one was seriously hurt. selling the parts is a good idea if there is anything salvageable . Its bad enough that you have to waste time to do all that too.

If the car is a popular model and you have somewhere off road to keep it, advertise it complete or for parts.
Do be careful letting buyers take parts off as many will cut wires which may render other parts useless.

Since you didn’t have full-coverage insurance, the choice is yours as to what to do with the vehicle. Junkyard prices would probably be less than $50. Parting it out may bring more money but you would need to get the car back home or pay storage fees to the garage it is at.
